The three that matter
In my experience, what counts is not being skilled in many technologies. It is having three things underneath, without which the rest is decoration.
Not giving up
Read, read again, and read once more. Seek and you will find. Do not give up before its time: do not ask for help until you have done your own part first. Conquer it patiently.
Being honest with yourself
It is what makes the work genuine, and the relationships around it too. Anything built on a comfortable half-truth has to be rebuilt eventually.
Willingness to go the extra mile
The part of the job nobody assigned to you is usually the part that turns out to matter.
What transfers
Debugging and troubleshooting
Working backwards from a symptom to a cause, without guessing.
Thinking outside the box
The stated problem is often not the real one. Finding the real one is the work.
Resourcefulness
Getting more out of what is already there before reaching for something new.
Asking the right questions
One good question early saves weeks of building the wrong thing.
